The Chateaus (Boss)

The Chateaus were originally called the Shadows . Soon after, they would change the name of the band to The Chateaus. In 1965 they recorded this killer 2 sider on the Boss record label out of Louisville Kentucky .

  1. Obviously going for "The Byrds sound". Notice taking a Pete Seeger folk song and adding jangling guitars.

  2. Great Byrd's version of the Bells of Ryhmney that's for sure. I'm the One did quite well locally, charting on WKLO in Louisville. Smash Records would pick up the 45 in 1966, but would substitute another song by the band " Since you have gone" instead of The Bells of Ryhmney for the B side. I also think its interesting that the group when changing there name used a similar sounding word but with a different meaning, (Shadows to Chateaus). Thanks Philo for comments.

  6. "I'm The One" was picked up and issued by the MERCURY subsidiary SMASH outta Chicago in 1966 with a different flipside called "Since You Have Gone"

Both "I'm The One" and "Since You Have Gone" was writtened by Jerry Fender and Jim Goodman who were probably members of the group..

  8. Umm saw now that you already mentioned the Smash 45 in a comment earlier :)

I know of a 45 by a Jerry Fender & The Secrets called "Come On Little Angel" it could be the same artist but i have nothing to base this on except the name and a slight likeness in the vocals ;)

Would be nice with a second opinion

  9. Hi Tommy
I too have never had the pleasure to hear the Jerry Foster and the Secrets 45. Topshelftom from topshelfoldies wrote that the Chateaus band members for this 45 were Donnie Barker,John Coffman ,Bernie Dunas, Eddie Vernon, and Denny Inzer. Thank you for your comments
