A couple of 45's

Hello to all, I was hoping someone might have information on a couple of records. The first of these is a 45 that was released in 1967 by The Spyres with Mike Prewitt on the Vix label. The group does a very good version of "Baby let me take you home".  The flip has an original song that was written by Mike Prewitt called "Looking for a place". The second record is by Joe and Jeff. It has a crude folk/rock sound. The numbers on the A.P.T 10 label are also etched in the dead wax. I hope this will help to determine the year the 45 was released. I appreciate those who follow the blog and are able to provide feed back on some of these lesser known records. Thank you.

  3. The Joe and Jeff 45 is a Wakefield Pressing. By the time this disc was issued, they began placing the reference number on the label (18239)
This release dates to September, 1972.
    Regards,
    Mike M.

  6. Many years ago, I had a copy of the 45 RPM Spyres record, and knew Mark Prewitt and the band members. I like their version of "Baby Let Me Take You Home" better than The Animals' original. I would like to get a digital copy of this record.

    1. Yes the group did great cover of the song. I've seen the record appear up for sell on ebay from time to time. The recording from my copy is not the best but it does showcase how talented the band was. Thank you for your comment.

  7. Many years ago, I had this Vix 45rpm Spyres record. I knew Mark Prewitt and the band members, and I think their version of "Baby Let Me Take You Home" is better than The Animals' original. I would like to get a digital copy of this record.

  8. As I said above, I knew the members of The Spyres (they were classmates of mine in Vicksburg, MS). In fact, one of them gave me a copy of the Vix 45rpm above. Fifty-three years later, I still have it, although it is scratchy and nearly unlistenable now. The Spyres were better than the stereotypical "garage band" of their day. I lost contact with them years ago, but I understand that today Mark (lead vocals and guitar) and Ellis (bass) are both lawyers. I don't know what George (keyboards) is doing today, and I forgot the drummer's name.

  10. Hum I never noticed that on the label. I think the song writers for Baby let me take you home was Wes Farrell and Bert Russell
