The Conchords ( A G A)

The Conchords band members were Sonny Geary - vocals and guitar, Ron Nash - vocals and drums, Phil Hutchinson - vocals, Mike Geary - keyboard, and Bill Bailey - lead guitar.  The matrix number on the label shows that is from 1966. More info about the group is desired, maybe someone can share their story. It would be much appreciated .

  2. there is a Conchords-track (Magic Love Machine) on the original It's Happening Here-sampler on Camdon, NJ, but I'm not sure it's the same group....

  3. As always thanks for both the comments. The band did really good versions of these popular songs. Michael, I took a look at the liner notes for the "Its Happening Here" album. The Conchords featured on that compilation seems to be a different group.

    2. Hi Garagepsyco
Thanks for the additional info. MTM's knowledge of the 1960's music is an amazing thing.

    3. Cannot tell you a whole bunch about this group, but Sonny and I served in the Navy together aboard USS Preble. 1967 was the year and I have a red copy of this recording I purchased from Sonny.

  5. Thank you for your efforts to keep the memory of little-known bands and music of that magical era. I was a member of the Conchords for the 5 or so years of their existence. We were from North East, PA (outside of Erie) and played all around the western PA area. I am still in touch with Phil Hutchinson and Ron Nash, but have lost contact with the Geary brothers. Phil still plays and sings in the area. Thanks again for reviving the memory - some of the best times of my life. Bill Bailey

  7. My name is Gary Stear. I was a classmate of Bill, Ron, and Phil at North East HS, North East, PA (15 mi. NE of Erie). I was asked to join when the group was originally being formed, but declined. The group seems to have lost track of the Gearys, but reassembled and performed on 4/6/14 in Sioux City, IA at the Orpheum Theatre with John Leubke's Rockestra. John is another class member who was music director there for many years and is retiring. John and his brother Glenn filled in for the Gearys during the performance. Phil and Ron handled all the vocals. Bill now lives in Maine, Ron in the Tidewater area of Virginia, and Phil is the only one who still lives in North East.

  8. Hi Gary
It is very nice to meet you. Thanks for writing me. I really would like to see a photo of the Conchords. If you happen to come across any mementoes of the group from 50 years ago that would be great.

  9. My ex was a cousin of Mike and Sonny Geary. Only met Sonny once in S. Ca around 1981, but became friends with Mike while living Ft Myers, Fl back in the 80's. He was writing songs at that point, and we recorded quite a few of them in my studio. Mike was a clever melody writer, and a lot of his songs would have made great children's music. Have not heard from him in years. Mike talked about meeting the Nightcrawlers while in Ft Myers, and wanting to "beat them to the punch" by releasing his own band's version of Little Black Egg first..back in Erie.
